Location: On the R436 between Ferbane and Ballycumber, right next to St. Manchán’s Church on its north side.
OS: N 17130 26982
Longitude: -7.7438134
Latitude: 53.293092
Description and History: Little remains of this building beyond the south-west angle and the wall footings. It was about 6.8m north to south and 8.4m east to west. Its orientation and general layout suggest this was some building with a liturgical purpose despite its name. Folklore has suggested that this was the house of Manchán and his mother, but the architecture is clearly later medieval in date, and likely contemporary with the later alterations made to St. Manchán’s Church. Another possibility is that this was a small shrine church built to house St. Manchán’s Shrine. Were this the case we might expect an older twelfth century structure, although it may have been rebuilt.
Difficulty: Very easy.
Date of Visit: 1st May, 2026.
