Description and History – This standing stone is somewhat of a mystery. Standing nearly at 2m in height, I had never noticed its presence after multiple visits to this abbey as it very close to my home. I spotted it one day when I was passing in the car and nearly crashed in surprise. Why had I never seen it before? I visited the stone some time later with two archaeologists who confirmed its antiquity but speculated that this wasn’t the original location of the stone. A month later the stone appeared to be missing. I intend to go out to the site again soon to see if it has fallen or been taken away.

Difficulty – Parking at the abbey is easy but you will have to walk along a busy road to the field entrance. Be careful. Permission from the landowner is always advisable.
