Tomb 1, Passage Tomb, Carrowmore, Co Sligo.

Location – In the field opposite the visitors centre.

Description and History – It is hard to get a handle on this tomb as it always seems to be overgrown whenever I am there. This is a small tomb consisting of two stone circles, an inner and outer one. There are 57 stones in all and there are no remains of the central tomb. It was 13 meters in diameter. Radio carbon dates for this tomb placed the tomb at c4350 which would make it very early if this is accurate. Serious doubts have been raised concerning this very early date.

Difficulty – Easy.

Part of the inner circle. I'm not happy with my pictures of this tomb.

The outer circle.
